Familiarizing Yourself with the Fair Housing Act

The Tennessee Fair Housing Council and West Tennessee Legal Services are sponsoring, along with several other partners, a seminar called "Design and Construction Under the Fair Housing Act," which will focus on the FHA's accessibility requirements for certain new multifamily housing.

The all-day seminar will be in Clarksville on July 6, 2010. Lawyer Sara Pratt and architect Phill Zook, two of the leading experts on this issue, will be our presenters.

Admission is free for most registrants, except that the registration fee for attorneys to earn CLE will be $30, and the fee for architects seeking 5 hours of AIA credit will be $75. WTLS has requested 5.75 hours of CLE credit for the training.

There will be a bag lunch available for an extra charge.

Glen Oxford of Oxford Architecture will be touring us through their new project "Room in the Inn's Campus for Human Development."

The tour is now at 4:00 pm. The project was showcased in the Nashville Civic Design Center's - Design for Affordability. The January Urban Design Forum featured several affordable housing projects in Nashville. This is a good opportunity to tour a project that achieved affordability through design considerations. It is located at 532 8th Ave. South (across from Cannery Row). Turn on Drexel St. and park in the parking lot next to the project. If the lot is full, there should be plenty of room on the street. Join us for this great opportunity!

PechaKucha was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. Read more about the previous Nashville event.

The idea of PechaKucha | Nashville is to bring together the many faces and ideas of Nashville into one creative media. From the stories of yesterday to the ideas of tomorrow, Nashville has a story to tell, and this is the avenue to tell it.
