Indeterminacies - Special Program w/ NSO

Indeterminacies introduces new, compelling music to our audiences and invites them to dissect both the music and their relationship to it. We bring in local and regional composers and performers along with writers, philosophers, and critics, mix in a curious audience, stir things up and see what happens.

The title, Indeterminacies, is borrowed from a beautiful musical idea posited by the composer John Cage. Indeterminate structures are processes that are carefully designed, but have unpredictable end results. They are wondrous experiments let loose in the world to wreak havoc or create intense beauty as they will.

AIA+2030 Professional Series Session

AIA Middle Tennessee, a Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, is taking tangible steps toward meeting the Challenge, and reaching that goal. One of those steps is creating the AIA+2030 Professional Series, a 10-part series of intermediate-level professional development courses designed to provide specific ways to make our built environment energy-efficient.

Skins: The Importance of the Thermal Envelope

James H. Larkin, P.E.

Mr. Larkin is a Senior Associate and Southeast Regional Manager of the Consulting Department at Curtain Wall Design & Consulting, Inc (CDC). Jim is a licensed professional engineer and has worked at CDC in Dallas for over 25 years now. He has provided engineering analysis and design consulting services to contractors, architects and building owners for curtain wall and other exterior cladding systems. Much of his work these days is related to impact resistant glazing and protecting the building envelope along the hurricane coast lines of the US but, Mr. Larkin has worked with many façade types around the country and around the world.

Peter Hutley

Peter Hutley is a graduate mechanical engineer at Curtain Wall Design and Consulting (CDC). He has worked at CDC in Dallas, TX since 2008. Mr. Hutley is primarily responsible for the design and engineering of building enclosure systems, with an emphasis on analysis of the thermal performance of enclosure systems, with a focus on unitized curtainwall, metal panel, and terra cotta systems. Since graduating from Rice University in 2010, Peter has been responsible for providing energy performance analysis, condensation resistance analysis, and structural analysis for wall systems on several projects in the United States and around the world.

Vicente Montes-Amoros, PE, MSc. Facade Engineer, LEED AP BD+C

Vicente Montes-Amoros is a structural engineer at Curtain Wall Design and Consulting (CDC). He has worked at CDC in Dallas, TX since 2005. Initially, Mr. Montes worked on the design and engineering of a variety of building envelope systems and cladding materials including: natural stone, pre-cast concrete panels, unitized and stick-built curtain wall. In 2008 he studied a Masters of Science in Façade Engineering in the United Kingdom at the University of Bath. Shortly after completing his master’s degree he returned to develop Solar Reflectivity technology at CDC. Vicente currently leads the Solar Reflectivity research and consulting efforts at CDC. He has published diverse articles on different building envelope topics.

ARE Vignette Class

We are excited to announce our first upcoming ARE Vignette Class. Come learn how to master the Vignette portions of the ARE's from experienced test takers. This particular class will focus on the Vignette for the Building Systems ARE (most info can be applied to all vignettes). Cost for the class will be $10 and will cover food and beverage. (PLEASE BRING CASH!!)

When: Tuesday, May 15th @ 5:30pm-7:00pm

Where: Cummins Station, 4th Floor Community Room (the one with the wooden entry)

Who: Those interested in learning the tricks of the trade when it comes to mastering the ARE Vignettes.

Remick Moore, recently licensed architect, will graciously host our class. Feel free to bring your laptop to follow along, though not necessary.

If bringing your laptop, you'll need to ensure you have the software downloaded from www.NCARB.org.
